KUŞKOR has always recognized the importance and power of education and awareness raising.
Educational
Talks and Field Trips
Two talks and field trips were given for
primary school children at the English School of Kyrenia (ESK) and Eastern
Mediterranean University (EMU) in December.
At ESK five nest boxes for Little Owl,
Common Kestrel, Cyprus Wheatear and Great Tit were erected around the school.
The children were given a talk on birds and their habitats and were taken on a
tour of the school grounds where they learned about the species living in and
around the school grounds and were shown the locations of the five nest boxes
to be monitored.
EMU students studying Tourism were given a
talk on Ecotourism and its role in Cyprus and later took an organised bus to
Kukla Wetlands. There were great views of species such as Peregrine Falcon,
Kentish Plover, Shellduck and Ruddy Shellduck among hundreds of other wildfowl.
We hope that the event provided an introduction to the potential for putting Cyprus’s
nature to economic benefit through sustainable tourism.
Poster
Campaign Against Illegal Hunting
KUŞKOR produced and distributed >100 A2 size posters encouraging the
Turkish Cypriot public to report and respond to illegal hunting such as the use
of illegal methods, take of non-hunt-listed species. The posters are on display
in coffee shops, petrol stations and other public places.
We would like to thank to the English School of Kyrenia (ESK) and Eastern Mediterranean University Faculty of Tourism for creating these opportunities for us to conduct awareness rising seminars for future generations.
