Hüseyin Yorgancı, a local birder, who has been bird-watching on Cyprus for more than 20 years, immediately realized that what he was looking at was different from anything else he had seen before. But he was surprised to realize that this was the first ever record of this species in Cyprus.
Desert Finch is an Asian species resident in Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Afganistan, Kazakhstan and China. Although the species occurs across the Levant coast, relatively close to Cyprus, it has previously never been reported on the island. With this record the species list of Cyprus (excluding subspecies and introduced/runaway species) increased up to 385 (u can check our Bird Directory for full list).
