In the last year over 150 people have been guided on our monthly birding tours raising much need funds for KUŞKOR projects…
On the whole the weather has been very kind to us with only the odd spot of drizzle on one of our trips. By heading in the right direction we managed to avoid anything more… Of course the wetlands have been problematic at times with little water to speak of but keeping our ears to the ground and taking in reports from birders over the weeks we were able to react to sighting trends and see a very varied and often a fabulous range of birdlife.
The highlights have been many with birds and butterflies added to life-lists. For me the several sightings of pied kingfisher which had proved so elusive in years past – I always seemed to visit sites with Brian Little the day after the bird had moved elsewhere – doh! – and I began to wonder if I’d ever see one! Needless to say my first successful sighting at Bogaz lagoon will never be forgotten.
Likewise, first a lone Avocet then later on twelve together at Famagusta was a wonderful sight. For many members it was also the first time they had been seen here.
Lastly I’d like to give a shout out to the people who joined our trips and served to make them varied and enjoyable for all… not forgetting our intrepid leaders Robin and Damla and their two entertainers Toprak and Poyraz… Future stars in the making, I have no doubt.
